Aquacel is a primary wound dressing made from sodium carboxymethylcellulose. It is produced as a textile fibre and presented in the form of a fleece held together by a needle bonding process, and is available both as a `ribbon’ for packing cavities, and as a flat non-woven pad for application to larger open wounds.
How often should Aquacel dressings be changed?
Use Aquacel Ag ribbon for cavity wounds. Dressing change. Every 5 to 7 days, unless exudate strikethrough occurs earlier. Requires a secondary dressing e.g. a semi-permeable film dressing (e.g. C-View) or a hydrocolloid (e.g. Comfeel Plus Transparent).
Can Aquacel dressing get wet?
The dressing is waterproof. You may shower. Please DO NOT soak for a prolonged time, bathe, swim, or use a hot tub.

How long can Aquacel be left?
The dressing can be left in place for up to seven days subject to regular clinical assessment and local dressing protocol. All wounds/incisions should be monitored frequently. Remove AQUACEL® Ag SURGICAL Dressing when clinically indicated (i.e., leakage, excessive bleeding, suspicion of infection or at seven days).
When do you stop using Aquacel dressing?
All wounds should be inspected frequently. Remove the Aquacel Ag when clinically indicated (i.e., leakage, excessive bleeding, increased pain) or after a maximum of seven days.
