The iconic restaurant enjoyed a refurbishment in 1990 by M J Long, which re-established its position as London’s favourite theatre restaurant. Twenty-five years later, Caprice Holdings’ owner Richard Caring commissioned Martin Brudnizki Design Studio to rethink the restaurant and bring it firmly into the 21st century.

According to the actor Donald Sinden in his Sky Arts television documentary series Great West End Theatres, The Ivy became so famous as a theatrical-celebrities haunt that in the 1943 revue Sweet and Low which ran for almost six years at the neighbouring Ambassadors Theatre, there was a satirical sketch included.

The Ivy does charge an entry fee of about $20 per person. This can make a price conscious backpacker think twice about making an appearance, however once the decision has been made you will realise it is worth every cent so don’t let it put you off.

The Loft is situated on the top floor of The Ivy Club and is available for private hire for events. By day, natural light streams through the iconic harlequin windows; by night, the rich fabrics and contemporary art create a stylish space for cocktail parties and intimate dinners.
