Does Go have a long o sound?
Long-O. This is the “universal” or “normal” sound for “O” – the sound with rounded lips (most languages use this sound). Some common words with this sound are: go / home / show / short / know / open / low / over / no / most / for / only.
Does OU say oo?
OU has two sounds. To help our students remember these sounds, we use the key phrase “Trout Soup” because it can say /ow/ like in trout and /oo/ like in soup.
How do you know when to use ou or ow?
When you hear /ow/ at the end of a word or syllable, use ow (cow, now, pow/er, show/er). When you hear /ow/ at the start of, or inside a word or syllable, use ou (ounce, house, loud). BUT: If the word rhymes with down (frown, clown, town) or owl (howl, towel, growl) we usually use ow.
